Restaurante Ceviche

Interesting volunteering opportunity in Nicaragua

Hola,
Raleigh International, a charity who offer volunteering opportunities for people to work on a project in a developing country to make an impact on poverty, have opportunities for Spanish speakers to volunteer in Nicaragua this summer.
They have just launched a new project, called Raleigh ICS Entrepreneur. Its core focus is in developing entrepreneurs and social enterprise. The projects will grow local businesses, in turn helping to create jobs, reduce poverty, provide skills, and contribute positively to social, economic and environmental development.
It is a fantastic opportunity for people to build their skills and develop themselves.

They are looking for volunteers to take part in the project from the UK:
1) 18 – 25 yr olds to take part for 12 weeks (who will work in groups overseas)
2) 23 yr olds and over to work as a team leaders - for 6 months

All expenses are covered, but they do ask volunteers to do some fundraising towards the costs.
They need applications in my the end of this month so it is quite urgent.

Just a bit of information about a new project Spanish Tutor in London in sponsoring.
"El san de los rechazados españoles"/"The salon of Spanish rejects" is the second social exhibition orgarised by Lon-art.org. It will be on from the 7th to the 12th of May at the Oxford House, Bethnal Green.
Lon-art.org, as some of you know already, is a non-profit organisation that promotes art, education and languages through education workshops and community events, to contribute towards positive changes in society.
This exhibition will transmit the voice of those emerging Spanish artists that, due to the actual economic crisis and not having much support from their government, have left their country and emigrate to London to work in unqualified and not very well paid jobs to try to fund their artistic production.
You will need to book online if you wish to attend to the opening on the 7th of May from 7.00 to 9.15. There will be introductory speeches and drinks, with music from Guillermo Díaz and a music and poetry recital from Rosario Villajos, as well as a drama performance from Lola Baro.
This is also an interactive exhibition where you can participate and collaborate in many ways: attending to their workshops, giving your feedback and opinion, telling everyone you know that could be interested, sponsoring like I did, or donating art materials or money, even if it is very little!
I will be running a Spanish conversation workshop on Monday the 12th of May from 7.00 to 9.00. Participants will be encouraged to discuss about the worrying social issues reflected in the emergent artists works exhibited in "El salón de los rechazados españoles". Follow the link for more information and bookings.

Os espero!
